Intro to Belly Massage

This is a 2-day introduction to the vast universe of the belly. It introduces the palpatory and treatment experience of the abdomen to manual therapy students, as well as those working in the exercise and fitness industries, allied health care practitioners, and everyone interested in their own body. Class time is split between palpatory anatomy of the various belly organs and easy to learn treatment techniques for selected pathologies of the upper, middle and lower belly.  Revel in the magnificence of your own belly for 2 days!

Intro to Belly Massage students learn...

  • an overview of the fascial architecture of the belly
  • normal physiology of digestion and elimination
  • treatments aimed at
    • creating a whole body awareness via the belly
    • balancing the stomach, duodenum, and upper abdomen
    • connective tissue support systems for the small and large intestines
  • relationships between
    • coccyx and sacrum to the pelvic organs and low back pain
    • pelvic organs to the rest of the guts

The abdomen houses and contains some of our major metabolic systems. An entire branch of our autonomic nervous system closely monitors all of the activities and systems in the guts, 50% of our lymphatic system is in the belly, 95% of serotonin (a neurotransmitter) is made there, and much of our complicated connective tissue system is at play in the abdomen and pelvis.

This is an area that has been truly under-served and under-addressed in the manual therapies for some time. Introduce yourself to the beautiful orchestra of the belly!
